A good quality, effective competency management system (CMS) will bring real and lasting benefits in terms of efficiencies and safety performance to any organisation. Since the start of 2015, OPITO has seen a 250% rise in the number of North Sea oil and gas companies seeking to achieve the organisation’s approval for their in-house CMS.
CNOOC, one of the UK’s largest oil producers, recently became the latest energy firm to have its internal system recognised after a series of comprehensive independent audits were carried out by OPITO.
The company chose 15 different safety critical positions across the business, including offshore installation managers, superintendents, supervisors, lead technicians and technicians.
The work which was completed in less than nine months met the necessary criteria to achieve a recommendation of approval and has been rolled out across the workforce on all three of its assets in the region – Buzzard, Scott and Golden Eagle.
CNOOC hopes to enhance the OPITO approved CMS in the future, in line with business requirements.
