North Sea Transition Deal
External Engagement
As part of the UK’s North Sea Transition Deal, OPITO has led the development of an Integrated People and Skills Strategy focused on future skills needs.
Engaging with and supporting the future workforce
Our aim is to inspire young learners to consider a potential career in the energy sector and implement innovative learning initiatives that promote the uptake of STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects and energy careers.
We recognise that to deliver effective STEM initiatives we need to partner with expert organisations. In the UK, OPITO has an established strategy to support Science Centres based in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee.
From apprenticeships and scholarships through to events facilitated by My Energy Future, we lead and support a wide range of activities that are designed to engage the next generation in the future of energy, and the part they can play.
A talented and enthusiastic workforce is one of the energy industry’s most important assets. My Energy Future brings industry and the next generation together.
As a not-for-profit organisation, we reinvest surplus funding into innovative, national and international STEM education programmes, that focus on developing an inclusive employee value proposition across the breadth of the energy sector.
As the global energy landscape shifts from traditional fossil fuels to renewable sources, understanding the entry barriers for aspiring professionals is crucial. This unique analysis, commissioned by OPITO, draws from survey data involving 4,000 participants from across the globe and provides insight into the key barriers to entering a career in the energy sector.
