OPITO Training Diploma: Bolted Flange Joint Integrity (BFJI) – Joint Inspector / Verifier (MTW / HTW / HBT)

This qualification is designed for personnel responsible for inspection, verification, and witnessing of bolted flange joint activities to assure leak free joint integrity. It is suitable for individuals working in: • Mechanical inspection and verification roles • Integrity assurance functions • Maintenance, shutdown, and commissioning activities • Oil & gas, renewables, and industrial sectors The qualification supports learners who are required to: • Verify joint assembly activities performed by others • Assure compliance with procedures and specifications • Identify defects, deviations, and non conformances • Provide documented assurance of joint integrity status

The qualification covers the following areas: • Joint / flange identification and tagging verification • Inspection after break joint and flange disassembly • Verification of flange condition, defects, and acceptance criteria • Pre assembly inspection and component verification • Surface finish, serration, and roughness measurements • Oversight of tightening methods (MTW, HTW, HBT) and calculation review • Verification of tool calibration and settings • Witnessing and verification during tightening operations • Final inspection including: • Flange alignment and parallelism • High/low conditions • Bolt protrusion checks • Documentation, reporting, and handover activities

The qualification ensures learners can apply these skills in alignment with operational procedures and safe systems of work.

Entry is at the discretion of OPITO Learners should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow then to gather the required evidence.
