Product Code: Q000586

Who is this Product for?

This qualification is designed for individuals beginning their development as workplace trainers and for those who need a structured, competency‑based route into planning, developing, delivering and evaluating training in operational or industry‑based environments.

It is particularly suited to:

  •  New or aspiring trainers who require a clear progression pathway from foundational knowledge to applied workplace competence

The qualification equips learners with the essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to deliver safe, inclusive, compliant, and effective training aligned with organisational, regulatory, and industry requirements.

What does this Product cover?

This qualification consists of two mandatory units that together develop and confirm a learner’s capability to plan, develop, deliver, assess and evaluate training in workplace and industry‑based environments.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. It is accessible to new or aspiring trainers who are beginning their development in learning and development or workplace training roles.

However, Centres may recommend that learners have:

  • Basic workplace or industry experience, particularly in environments where communication, mentoring, coaching or supervision are part of the role
  • Vocational or technical subject‑matter expertise relevant to the area in which they intend to deliver training
  • Familiarity with workplace processes, operational procedures or safety requirements, especially in technical or safety‑critical environments

To successfully complete the qualification, learners must also have:

  • Access to at least one real learner in an operational workplace, as required for the Workplace Evidence Unit (OGOS‑SQ11).
  • Opportunities to plan, deliver, assess, and evaluate training in a real or appropriately justified simulated environment.
  • Access to organisational documentation, such as procedures, risk assessments, training records, and relevant technologies.

There are no age restrictions and the qualification is suitable for individuals transitioning into training roles as well as those already supporting workplace learning. Centres must ensure that delivery and assessment comply with local legal, regulatory, and organisational requirements, including health and safety, safeguarding, equality, and data‑protection legislation.

Product Achievement Requirements

To achieve the Train the Trainer Vocational Qualification, learners must complete both mandatory units in sequence. This ensures a structured progression from theoretical understanding to applied workplace competence.

Step 1 - Complete the Train the Trainer Initial Unit (OGOS-SQ10)

Learners must first complete the knowledge‑based unit, which provides the essential theoretical foundation for effective training practice.

This includes:

  • Understanding the training cycle and trainer responsibilities
  • Conducting learning needs analysis
  • Designing programs and session plans
  • Applying inclusive and learner‑centered principles
  • Understanding assessment, feedback, safeguarding, EDI, and governance
  • Engaging in reflective practice and quality assurance concepts

This unit must be completed before any workplace evidence is gathered.

Step 2 - Complete Train the Trainer Workplace Evidence Unit (OGOS‑SQ11)

After achieving Train the Trainer Initial Unit (OGOS-SQ10), learners must demonstrate their competence in a real operational workplace. They must produce a complete portfolio of authentic evidence mapped to all outcomes, including:

  • A compliant learning needs analysis
  • A learner profile and safeguarding/data‑protection controls
  • A scheme of work and session plan(s)
  • Delivery of at least two training sessions (one observed)
  • Assessment records and feedback provided to learners
  • A training diary and reflective accounts
  • Evidence of stakeholder engagement and QA participation
  • Risk assessments, annotated resources and technology‑enabled practice

Evidence must be valid, authentic, sufficient, current and reliable and must meet OPITO assessment and quality assurance requirements.
