Who is this Product for?

This Product is for personnel who are to be appointed to the role of Marine Responsible Person, and personnel connected to marine operations. This product is to meet the offshore safety training requirements for any personnel new (or returning) to the offshore energy industry who will be responsible in achieving consistent safe management of marine operations within an Offshore Installation or Energy Structure Safety Zone.

What does this Product cover?

This Product aims to equip the learner with the initial knowledge and understanding to identify and recognise potential hazards and unsafe practice to provide for safe Offshore Marine Operations. To generally increase learners’ knowledge of Offshore Marine Operations and safe practice and to introduce relevant legislation and guidance. Use a communication and coaching technique that will promote a positive safety culture.

Upon completion, a learner should have sufficient confidence to be able to demonstrate; - understanding of basic nautical terminology

- having a meaningful interaction with the vessel bridge navigational officers.

- the taking of necessary action, including “Stop the Job” in the case of undesirable event and the ability to understand and manage a safe and effective marine operations.

- recognise safe and unsafe approaches of an attending vessel in terms of course and speed and aspect.

- recognise the importance of correct Vessel set up for operations in the Installation Safety Zone including for operations in close proximity to a platform or when performing critical activities.

- recognise safe manouevring within the Safety Zone including when moving alongside.

- awareness of common failure modes that can lead to unsafe condition on the Ship leading to drifting and drive on.

- awareness of the potential consequence of collision for various energy levels and at locations having varying sensitivity to penetration.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-entry requirements however, some experience of offshore operations and conditions would be advantageous but not absolutely necessary.

Product Achievement Requirements

To achieve the Safe Offshore Marine Operations (SOMO) – Offshore Installation & Energy Structure Safety Zone Training, the learner will need to successfully complete all the mandatory units (6 Units).

4 hours.

Validity
