Offshore Safety Representative Initial Training Standard

The Product is for learners who are already or wish to become elected safety representatives.

This Product aims to equip learners with the minimum level of training that safety representatives, who have been elected under the Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations - SI 1989/971, should receive to assist them to fulfil their functions as defined in those regulations.

This aim will be achieved by ensuring their ability to meet the following objectives: Understand workforce Engagement Framework Understand Major Accident Hazards Understand Proactive Safety Representative Involvement

There are no learner pre-requisites for this training.

Medical requirements:

There are no identified physical or stressful demands of the learner for OSR Initial Training. All personnel who participate in OSR initial training should be medically fit and capable of participating fully. The responsibility for the individual completing the course, without any adverse effects to their present state of health, lies with the learner and/or the company sponsoring the learner. Where doubt exists regarding the medical fitness of any learner the training establishment should seek the advice of a medical officer

To achieve the Offshore Safety Representative Initial Training Standard the learner will need to complete the 3 mandatory units.

Elected Safety Representative Development Training

Although there will be no expiry date for The OPITO Approved Safety Representative’s Initial Training certificates, the following regulatory criteria still applies:

A person shall cease to be a safety representative for the purposes of the Safety Representative and Safety Committee Regulations 1989 –

(a) On the election of another safety representative for their constituency in accordance with regulations 8 to 13

or

(b) if they resign,

or

(c) if their employment is terminated,

or

(d) if they have been absent from the installation for which they are a safety representative for a continuous period of twelve weeks

Please note: If the expiry date on the learners previous certificate is within 3 months prior of the course enrolment date then the date of the new certificate should correspond with the expiry date of the existing/previous certificate unless stated otherwise by the Duty Holder or Asset Owner or Operator.
