On behalf of industry, OPITO has developed Global Qualifications and a qualifications framework to support employers to develop skills and competence within their operations and maintenance activities.
The industry led approach provides a flexible framework with specifically designed and recognised qualifications that can be benchmarked against existing national and regional standards.
To ensure a competent level of technical knowledge, OPITO has introduced Global Qualifications covering Processing Operations and three maintenance disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical and Instrument and Control. These standards are applicable for both onshore and offshore.
Consisting of a structured approach to skills development, the framework builds skills at each level through training and occupational standards, as prescribed below:
Training Standards: Maintenance
Occupational Standards: Maintenance
Training Standards: Processing Operations
Occupational Standards: Processing Operations
The OPITO Global Qualifications are flexible and offers individuals entry and exit points at each level.
Adopting OPITO’s industry-led standards and qualifications framework provides a structured approach to developing critical skills for technicians to work on offshore and onshore installations. The framework also helps to ensure oil and gas production and maintenance skills and competences.
Qualifications
Successful completion of agreed Standards within the framework leads to the award of an OPITO qualification represented by a certificate, jointly awarded by OPITO and the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) which is recognised by the industry globally.
