The oil and gas industry is a major employer across the whole of the UK and OPITO works with partners to ensure that the skills needs of the industry are identified and addressed through UK Government support.

OPITO works on behalf of industry to positively influence the following issues:

  • The investment needed to support the development of energy skills
  • Ensuring skills are a focus of the potential oil and gas sector deal
  • Contributing feedback on the changes to technical training and apprenticeships
  • A more appropriate and less complex implementation model of the Apprenticeship Levy
  • Increasing uptake of STEM subjects in schools and showcasing the oil and gas sector
  • Increasing diversity in the oil and gas workforce

MPs and UK Government ministers are provided with regular updates from OPITO ahead of debates and other parliamentary activity and we submit written and oral evidence to Parliament Select Committees. We also contribute to industry and leadership forums to ensure skills are at the heart of all energy policy developments.
