OPITO partners with Lone Star College Foundation, Houston, to provide grants for Process Technology students

OPITO, the global safety and skills body for the energy industry, has partnered with Lone Star College (LSC) Foundation to offer $1,000 grants to 15 students enrolled in the LSC Process Technology programme.

As part of OPITO’s commitment to attracting and inspiring the next generation of a safe and skilled energy workforce, these funds will provide students with access to workforce training, while increasing underrepresented populations in the industry by removing some of the financial burdens students face.

Alex Spencer, Director of Operations at OPITO, said: “Our vision of an increasingly diverse skilled workforce that continues to meet international needs is centred on addressing core skills requirements across all energy sectors. This is achieved through various collaborative partnerships, including the LSC Foundation. Funding these scholarships is part of our commitment to attracting prospective workers to join the energy sector, where new career opportunities will be flexible, inclusive, stimulating and challenging.

“Underlying our commitment to providing the optimum skills, training and standards that will accelerate the transition, these scholarships will ultimately help provide Lone Star College students access to these recognised programmes, supporting future workforce development.”

In addition to the $1,000 grants, students will receive hands-on skills and training on procedures and safety methods needed in their chosen careers. The LSC Process Technology programme trains students to produce intermediate or final products from raw materials such as crude oil, petrochemicals, speciality chemicals, plastic materials and refinery products.

“Safety is a top priority at the Lone Star College-Process Technology Centre and our curriculum is replete with safety concepts and practices,” said Roger Chambers, Ph.D., LSC-Kingwood Process Technology Centre Dean. “Partnering with an industry leader like OPITO is a clear route to success. We are excited to work with this company to invest in the future of the process industry.”
