OPITO, the international, not-for-profit, skills body for the energy industry, has announced a new format for its annual safety and competence conference. Now in its ninth year, the event will be held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 7th November 2018.

Free to attend, OPITO Global will build on the successes of the previous one-day conference and exhibition, formerly known as OPITO Safety & Competence Conference (OSCC).

Over 400 delegates and 20 exhibitors are expected to attend the first day which will see internationally recognised leaders from the oil and gas supply chain and world-renowned experts in safety and competency taking part in keynote sessions and panel debates. Last year saw attendees from Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Registration is now open and can be found here

With a continued focus on energy industry safety, the revamp will see an additional technical forum available on the 8th November as an optional subsequent day session. It is expected that around 150 delegates from OPITO’s global network of approved training companies as well as industry practitioners will attend the technical forum to delve deeper into the details of delivering the high quality of standards that OPITO sets for the sector around the world.

The theme for the 2018 conference is ‘Skilled for Safety’. The agenda and speakers (both to be announced soon) will provide insights, personal experiences and the latest industry trends.

OPITO chief executive officer, John McDonald, said: “Our annual global conference provides a unique window of opportunity for companies involved in the energy sector from around the world to come together to hear and discuss the latest thinking about safety and competency.

“We have identified a format change that will enable us to deliver a more effective event that mirrors the needs of the industry to help them stay relevant and ahead of the curve when it comes to workforce safety and development. While the opening day will see around 400 attendees looking at the wider industry safety picture, the optional session on the 8th will be aimed at industry practitioners already utilising OPITO’s standards.

“Under the conference theme, Skilled for Safety, the new look OPITO Global will seek toconsider what we do now, how we can build on the great work already accomplished and ensure our sector is in the right shape to meet the challenges facing us in the future.”
