Secondary Engineer is part of the national Primary Engineer Programme. It's aims include; the development of children and young people through engagement with engineering, the promotion of engineering careers for pupils through inspiring programmes and competitions, the development of engineering skills for teachers and practitioners as a sustainable model and working to address the gender imbalance in science and engineering.
In 2018/19, OPITO provided funding for Secondary Engineer to deliver their 'Fluid Power Challenge' workshop for teachers in Aberdeen area. The 'Fluid Power Challenge' is a pneumatics and hydraulics
systems project ideally suited to S2 or S3, including Engineering Science classes.
Teachers attend a one-day practical training course to enable them to deliver a curriculum-mapped, whole class engineering project. Schools will be/are invited to a Celebration Event, run and managed by Primary Engineer® Programmes, where they showcase their work to other schools and industry.
